Regent University Department of Athletics welcomes inquiries from prospective student-athletes. The Athletic Department is committed to complying with NCAA Division III recruiting rules. If you are interested in Regent University to further your academic and athletic careers, please keep the following rules in mind during the recruitment process:

NCAA Eligibility Requirements

In the NCAA, a student-athlete can compete in four "seasons of competition" within the first ten semesters of college. To ensure progress, a student-athlete must earn a minimum number of institutional credit hours before participating in each additional season of competition. A season of competition is when a student-athlete practices or competes during or after the first contest of that season whether at the varsity, junior varsity or freshman team level. Student-athletes must be enrolled in at least 12 hours every semester to be eligible for practice and competition.

A student-athlete will no longer be considered enrolled in a minimum full-time program of studies (after dropping a course that places the student below full-time status) when the dropped course becomes official in accordance with procedures determined by Regent University for all students. They must meet freshman and/or continuing eligibility rules.

FRESHMAN ELIGIBILITY

All incoming freshman, transfers, and continuing student-athletes must abide by Regent University’s requirements for GPA minimums, academic standing, and satisfactory progress towards a degree to remain eligible for intercollegiate competition.

Continued Eligibility

Must have accumulated a minimum of 24 credit hours during the last two semesters of full-time enrollment to be eligible. All student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA and remain in good academic standing making normal progress towards a degree.

Transfer Student Eligibility

After initial contact is made by the prospective student-athlete, Regent Athletics is permitted to have further contact after the Director of Athletics from the transferring institution is notified. If the transferring institution is not notified, prospective transfer students must have an official release or tracer from the transferring institution prior to transfer approval.

Graduate Student Eligibility

Enrolled as a full-time graduate student as per criteria set by the institution.

Regent University Eligibility Requirements

Student-athletes shall meet Regent University’s academic standards for all regular students. Eligibility guidelines are subject to change.

NCAA Division III academic eligibility requirements: Contact 757.352.4528 or email us at regentathletics@regent.edu.

High School Student

In NCAA Division III, in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts shall not be made with a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's relatives or guardian(s) until the prospective student-athlete has completed their sophomore year in high school.

Four-Year College Transfers

If you are a transfer from a four-year college, Regent University must have written permission from your current or previous school in order to contact you about your transfer options.

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act requires co-educational institutions of postsecondary education that participate in a Title IV, federal student financial assistance program, and have an intercollegiate athletic program, to prepare an annual report to the Department of Education on athletic participation, staffing, and revenues and expenses, by men's and women's teams. The EADA reports the institution's commitment to providing equitable athletic opportunities for its men and women students. The department will use this information in preparing its required report to the congress on gender equity in intercollegiate athletics. All institutions of higher education that participate in the federal student aid program(s) must complete their annual EADA report by October 15.
