Kimberly R. Van Essendelft, J.D.

Bio

Associate Dean Kimberly Van Essendelft received her B.A., with distinction, from the University of Virginia and her J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. After graduation from law school, she served as a law clerk to the Hon. Raymond A. Jackson, the Hon. Tommy E. Miller, and the Hon. William T. Prince in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division.

Van Essendelft teaches Legal Research and Writing I and II, Appellate Advocacy, and Civil Pretrial Practice and Procedure and was an adjunct professor at Regent for eight years before joining the faculty full-time in 2006. Before joining the faculty, she was an associate city attorney in Virginia Beach for seven years, representing the city, its departments, and its employees in various civil litigation and administrative matters. In her position as associate city attorney, she was active in the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia and presented topics at various conferences. Prior to her appointment as an associate city attorney, Dean Van Essendelft worked for two years at Willcox & Savage, P. C. in its General Corporate Litigation and Media Defense practice groups. She is a previous member of the I’Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court and the James Kent Inn of Court.

Van Essendelft is admitted to practice in Virginia, as well as in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
