Joshua McMullen, Ph.D.

Bio

Dr. Josh McMullen serves as dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Studies. He joined Regent University as an Assistant Professor of History in August 2010.

Credentials

He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from the University of Missouri—Columbia. Prior to that, he received an M.A. in Theology and an M.A. in Church History from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. McMullen holds bachelor’s degrees in Biblical Literature and Christian Education from Taylor University.

Publications

McMullen's research focuses on the cultural and religious history of the United States. His first book, Under the Big Top: Big Tent Revivalism and American Culture, was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. He has also written a chapter on revivalism for the Oxford Handbook of Christian Fundamentalism (2023). His most recent book is The Glacier Priest: Father Bernard Hubbard and America’s Last Frontier (Notre Dame Press, 2025).

McMullen has contributed chapters, articles, book reviews, and interviews to various peer-reviewed books, academic journals, and news outlets, including The Christian Broadcasting Network, The Christian Science Monitor, and Christianity Today.
