Shannon Kuschel, Ph.D., LPC

Bio

Dr. Shannon Kuschel is an Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology & Counseling at Regent University and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. Her work utilizes an inter-disciplinary approach, integrating experience as mental health clinician, educator, special education interventionist, and researcher. She enjoys working at the intersections of psychology, education, and neuroscience.

Kuschel has spent more than 25 years working with children, their families, and schools specializing in ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences, as well as trauma and grief recovery. She has worked as a private practice counselor, school counselor, school principal, and adjunct faculty for Regent University. Additionally, she provides consultation services to schools on a variety of topics.

Dr. Kuschel recently completed post-doctoral training in neuropsychological assessment and research from Regent and Hampton Roads Neuropsychology. Research interests include cognitive and learning development, learning differences such as dyslexia and dyscalculia, cognitive and learning interventions with diverse populations, and neuropsychology and its practical application to education.

Kuschel’s current research focuses on literacy development, processing speed, working memory, and other cognitive aspects that impact academic outcomes in special education populations. She is also the co-director of the Research Center in Clinical Neuropsychology with Dr. Anna Ord. Together they hope to inspire students in the study of neuropsychology and its practical application in multiple venues. They are currently working on research related to brain health lifestyle factors in relation to cognitive functioning in older adults.
