Dr. William L. Hathaway Appointed Chair of Virginia Board of Psychology

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (August 28, 2025) — Dr. William L. Hathaway, Provost of Regent University, has been elected to the position of Board Chair for the Virginia Board of Psychology.

Dr. Hathaway expressed his enthusiasm for this appointment in public service: “I am grateful for this opportunity to serve both the Virginia public and my profession through this role, especially at this time where psychological concerns loom so large in our world. Regent has always been very supportive of its community members serving the public as a part of its Christian mission.”

The Virginia Board of Psychology is composed of nine members—both clinical psychologists and citizen representatives—and oversees licensing and regulation for psychologists and related professionals in Virginia. It manages enforcement, rulemaking, and licensing functions to protect public welfare.

Dr. Hathaway is serving a four year term running from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026. This appointment marks Dr. Hathaway’s third tenure on the Board, following prior service from 2001–2004 and 2012–2016.

Additionally, Dr. Hathaway participates on key Board committees, including chairing the regulatory committee and serving on the special conference committee.
