VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (September 4, 2025) – Regent University School of Law is recognized among the nation’s best in preLaw Magazine’s Back to School 2025 issue, receiving top honors for its human rights program and national recognition in advocacy.
National Rankings
- #1 Best Law School in the Nation for Human Rights (tied for 1st place) and an “A+” rating in Human Rights Law
- #10 Best Law School in the Nation for Public Service in Government
- #11 Best Law School in the Nation for Moot Court
- #30 Best Law School in the Nation for Criminal Law
“At Regent Law, we aim to educate and equip students for lives of service and influence around the world,” said S. Ernie Walton, Interim Dean of Regent University School of Law and former director of the Center for Global Justice. “It’s a joy and an honor to see Regent Law tied for best in the country at training students to advocate for human rights. At Regent Law, we’re training servant leaders to be both purpose-driven and practice-ready.”
Human Rights Leadership
Regent Law and its Center for Global Justice consistently rank among the top programs in the nation for Human Rights Law. Through the Center, Regent Law students receive grants to pursue human rights internships around the world, including in India, Uganda, Bulgaria, France, and throughout the United States. Students also work on pro bono legal projects for organizations like the International Justice Mission, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, and Alliance Defending Freedom International. In 2023, the Center launched a clinic that provides free legal services to survivors of human trafficking.
This year, Regent’s Human Trafficking Clinic won a landmark victory for a survivor of trafficking, helping her clear unjust criminal convictions through a rare legal process called vacatur. She is only the fourth survivor in Virginia to receive this relief, and the third represented by Regent’s Clinic. For survivors, vacatur is life-changing: it acknowledges their exploitation, wipes away convictions tied to their abuse, and restores the dignity and legal standing needed to begin anew. Regent’s Center for Global Justice championed the very law that made this relief possible.
Specialty Strengths
PreLaw Magazine also recognized Regent Law for its strong offerings in public service and criminal law. Regent’s innovative Prosecution Practicum allows students to learn firsthand from local judges and prosecutors while serving in semester-long internships. Alongside these programs, Regent Law’s 11th-place national ranking in Moot Court highlights the school’s strength in advocacy and its emphasis on preparing students for practice in the courtroom.
